Did you know?

That Mack Library is the proud owner of a fantastic special collection?

The Dr. J. Robert and Alice R. Dornish Children's Literature Collection is home to over 1,000 children's books, both picture and chapter books, that are signed by either the author or illustrator (sometimes both!). These titles are mostly first editions, making them a rare and special addition to our collection.
The Dornish Room opened in a dedication ceremony in February 2008.

"Dr. Bob" is a former professor of children's literature at Kutztown University. His wife Alice worked at NCC for 30 years as an instructor in the office administration program. The Dornishes spent many years traveling to book and library conferences to obtain author's autographs and are well known for their wonderful book collection. They also donated a large portion of their collection to Kutztown University.

The Dornish Collection is available for viewing by daytime appointment only. Books cannot be checked out. No food, drink or personal belongings can be brought into the room - lockers will be available for the storage of such items. The room is decorated with original artwork by local illustrator Brian Ajhar, as well as original quilted fabric squares that were designed and signed by children's book illustrators.

Here are some signed titles that you will find in the Dornish Room:

10 Little Rubber Ducks

by Eric Carle

The Berenstain Bears Go on Vacation

by Stan and Jan Berenstain

Eragon

by Christopher Paolini

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

by J.K. Rowling

The Report Card
by Andrew Clements

Science Verse
by John Scieszka

The Dornish Collection is a terrific resource for students preparing for careers in early childhood education, children's librarianship and graphic design.
