This Day in History: Toni Morrison

Today marks the birthday of Nobel Prize-winning writer Toni Morrison, born in 1931. This famous author is best known for her novels Beloved and The Bluest Eye. Her most recent work, A Mercy, was just published in 2008. Beloved won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1988 and was then awarded the Nobel Prize in 1993, making Morrison the first black woman to win the prestigious award.
