This Day In History: Judy Blume

If you were a girl growing up in the 1970s, 80s or 90s -- or if you know a girl who's growing up now -- you've probably heard of author Judy Blume! Readers and librarians around the world are celebrating her birthday today.

Judy Blume has written a great number of books for children and teens, which are entertaining but also call attention to coming-of-age issues. Because of her frank discussion of these sometimes sensitive topics, attempts have been made by community organizations to challenge or ban Blume's books from schools and libraries.

Join us in appreciating Judy Blume -- and your freedom to read -- by picking up some of her classic books at the NCC Libraries.
